Responsibilities
  • Perform highly advanced (senior-level) work supervising an assigned dorm and youth development coaches; oversee the dorm operations and programming activities involving youth and staff.
  • Oversee the culture, implementation of the Texas Model of trauma-informed corrections, and lead and develop the team.
  • Determine dorm assignments and reassignments based on youth age, safe housing assessment, and the dorm supervisors areas of expertise and skills.
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to staff; train, supervise, and evaluate staff and develop Senior Coach equivalents.
  • Review overhead and body worn cameras on a regular schedule to ensure safety, security, and adherence to Texas Model principles.
  • Ensure adherence to agency policies and procedures; promptly addressing youth and staff conduct at the lowest level.
  • Participate in the selection of staff to ensure a good fit for the dorm; establish and maintain a positive dorm culture built on the Texas Model, teamwork, and caring for youth.
  • Foster trust among co-workers and supervised staff; resolve issues and serve as a calming agent when situations escalate.
  • Communicate directives with deliberate authority; ensure information is disseminated to staff from leadership accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complete required trainings and ensure staff do likewise; maintain presence on the dorm and model TBRI principles.
  • Demonstrate TBRI-based playful engagement, healthy boundaries, and repairs with youth and staff, as appropriate.
  • Provide oversight, coaching, and feedback on appropriate Texas Model engagement, activities, and interventions for all shifts.
  • Plan, prioritize, and schedule dorm activities; ensure daily schedule and activities are followed, including nurture groups and activities.
  • Ensure weekly dorm leadership meetings occur involving case managers, senior coaches, and assigned psychologists.
  • Provide technical assistance, training and direction to coaches; empower staff to learn and practice TBRI principles while maintaining youth safety.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards related to dorm safety, youth movement, on-the-job training, and related operations and programs.
  • Maintain awareness of staff behaviors and create an environment of felt safety; ensure staff can express needs driving their behavior.
  • Ensure youth service team meetings occur per policy; analyze data to improve programs and operations and to schedule the dorm effectively.
  • Seek creative ways to recognize staff value; manage shift change transitions with clear communication of key issues.
  • Recognize when staff need to self-regulate and provide opportunities for emotional regulation; conduct follow-up visits with staff after incidents to identify needs and assist where possible.
  • Encourage creativity in group activities used for regulation practice, life skills, and recreation, using agency guides and materials, and share new ideas with leadership.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check and meet other requirements listed under Minimum Qualifications.
  • Experience in supervision and trauma-informed care, with relevant certifications/licensures preferred.
