Director User Experience - Remote at Optum. Join Optum Insight to work with cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies to revolutionize healthcare delivery, enhance customer engagement, and drive innovation across digital platforms. The Product Design team drives the design strategy for Optum Insight's modern SaaS solutions, focusing on the visual, tactile, and emotional aspects of the user experience using human-centered methodologies and a mature Enterprise Design Language. You will supervise a team of senior designers and collaborate with researchers, developers and product leaders to create best-in-class, interoperable SaaS solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage a team of senior level product designers to design compelling and useful products
• Work closely with design leadership to establish strategic plans and ensure a cohesive customer experience across products
• Champion the strategic vision for AI adoption by aligning initiatives with organizational goals to unlock value, drive competitive advantage, and ensure responsible, transparent, and impactful outcomes. Lead the ethical transformation of business processes and culture through AI integration that enhances efficiency, innovation, and decision-making
• Direct and control the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers
• Regularly interact with executives and/or major customers regarding matters of significance to the organization
• Partner closely with leadership across functions including Research, Product and Development Managers to identify, plan, prioritize and implement project design activities
• Advocate for user-centered design including research and accessibility
• Direct and critique in-progress design work, evaluating the priority and effectivity of solutions

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of UX design experience, including creating wireframes and prototypes to communicate design concepts
• 10+ years of experience participating in user research and concept testing with real users
• 10+ years of demonstrated understanding of mature user-centered design and research practices with a deep background and bias towards simplicity, elegance, and minimalism
• 3+ years of proven ability to manage multiple user experience professionals towards a cohesive vision
• Portfolio of relevant user experience project deliverables, including demonstrated experience in AI/ML and emerging technologies
• Proven excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences at various levels of our organization including executive leadership

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Information Architecture, Communications, Computer Science, or a related discipline
• Experience with enterprise software, B2B applications or large employee-facing systems in the medical, healthcare or financial domains
• Knowledge of UX-related analytics, metrics, and measurement techniques
• Deep understanding of Figma, generative design tools, LLMs and computational design methodologies
• Proven ability managing multiple projects and teams simultaneously
• Proven involvement in the UX community (e.g. associations, meet-ups, clubs, conferences)
• Proven collaborative, low-ego approach to working with others

Compensation and Benefits

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to salary, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution are available (eligibility applies). The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
