Job Title: Substitute Child Care WorkerReports to: Child Care DirectorDept/School: Laura Ellison Child Development Center (CDC)Work Year: 187 days (as needed)Base Salary: $15.00/hourPRIMARY PURPOSE:Responsible for the management of the assigned classroom.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:High school diploma or GED required18 years of age or olderSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Maintain current CPR and First Aid certificatesUnderstand developmentally appropriate practices for the age of children in careDemonstrate sound judgment when planning for children's safety and healthRespond to and interact with children in their play environments and at the child's eye levelShow insight into child and adult behavior: accept and respect differences in children and parentsUnderstand and show respect for confidentiality of children, parents and other staffExhibit flexibility and sense of humorCommunicate effectively and clearly with parents, staff and administrators, in both verbal and written formUtilize time well and stay organizedExperience:Minimum of 2 years of successful classroom experience in a licensed childcare center preferredMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Classroom Instruction:Maintain the teaching and care giving standards established by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (TDPRS).Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined.Supervise children and maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for the children at all times.Observe and monitor children both indoors and outdoors, assuring health and safety.Ensure that each child receives individual attention.Follow curriculum and daily lesson plans for classroom.Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and high standards of quality in all classrooms in the center.Assist in other projects as assigned by the childcare director.Maintain cooperative and productive relationships with other center staff.Keep assigned classroom tidy and organized.Observe for and correct/report any hazardous conditions of the building, grounds, or equipment.Communication:Develop a friendly relationship and open communication with each child and his/her parents.Communicate with parents through daily greetings and written comments on children's daily charts (infant and toddler rooms).Maintain appropriate notes in each child's file.Supervisory Responsibilities:Provide diligent supervision and oversight for student workers, volunteers, substitute teachers and others who may participate/assist in the assigned classroom. *Student workers/observers/volunteers MAY NOT be left alone with a group of children.OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:Frisco ISD retains the right to adjust the responsibilities and assignments of all positions as needed to meet the needs of the District.WORK RELATIONSHIPS:Frisco ISD is committed to fostering a collaborative work environment that honors and supports the social and emotional well-being of all. Employees are expected to interact in a manner that is becoming of educators and promotes high levels of productivity for the benefit of the students we serve.WORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Must be able to: stoop, bend, and walk while carrying an infant up to 40lbs; move from standing to sitting on the floor without difficulty frequently throughout the day; safely lift and carry infants to/from changing table; change an infant's diaper, administer medication and/or attend to infants' needs while assuring the child's safety and security at the changing table; change crib bedding and perform regular classroom housekeeping tasks such as picking up toys, restocking supplies for individual children (diapers, wipes, etc.) and sweeping floors after meals; handle multiple tasks and individual needs of 4 infants at once; perform emergency evacuation procedures with ease, including lifting/loading 3-4 infants into a crib with wheels and rolling the crib outdoors to safety area.Must be able to tolerate the typical sounds of the infant room, i.e. babies crying, laughter, and active play.Application Deadline: Until FilledThe foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.Approved By: Pamela K.
