Director of Construction

A rapidly growing real estate investment and development firm is seeking a seasoned construction leader to guide the strategic build-out of residential rental communities across the southern United States. This is a high-impact role with broad oversight of horizontal and vertical construction activities, site development, vendor management, and quality assurance. Focus:

• Direct and manage end-to-end construction operations for build-to-rent single-family communities across Texas, Florida, and other emerging markets.
• Lead preconstruction planning, budgeting, and resource forecasting across multiple simultaneous development projects.
• Coordinate with municipalities and utility providers to secure necessary approvals and ensure site readiness.
• Establish construction schedules and ensure execution aligns with deadlines, budgets, and design specifications.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of site development, including earthwork, utilities, foundations, and vertical construction.
• Implement and continuously improve a scalable quality control program tailored to single-family residential projects.
• Collaborate with development, design, and finance teams to align construction goals with organizational strategy.
• Travel regularly to job sites to monitor progress, ensure safety, and drive excellence in workmanship.
• Engage and negotiate with general contractors, subcontractors, and materials suppliers to support project timelines and cost control.
• Maintain meticulous documentation on change orders, compliance records, construction milestones, and warranty status.
• Proactively resolve construction challenges, ensuring timely escalation and resolution.

Skill Set:

• 10+ years of progressive experience in residential construction, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing multiple projects.
• Demonstrated expertise in horizontal and vertical construction, site work, and infrastructure delivery.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in cost estimation, project budgeting, and value engineering.
• Background in managing construction of single-family and build-to-rent housing developments preferred.
• Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, with a sharp eye for detail and quality.
• Proficiency with construction documentation, permitting, and compliance protocols.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders from jobsite crews to executive teams.
• Willingness to travel frequently to project locations across multiple states.
